About This Quiz

India's mobile esports scene is the largest thing in Indian competitive gaming and it is almost invisible to anyone outside it. It has its own organisations with genuine fanbases, its own annual circuit, streaming numbers that dwarf most western esports, and a set of personalities who are mainstream celebrities in India and unknown everywhere else. This quiz is about that ecosystem rather than the game itself. Battle royale scoring is not just kills

Professional matches in this format are scored on a combination of eliminations and where you finished, added up across many matches rather than decided in one. A squad can win a tournament without topping a single game, by surviving consistently while more aggressive teams trade themselves out early.

That is why so much high-level play looks passive to people used to watching shooters. Understanding the scoring is understanding why the teams behave the way they do, and a couple of questions sit directly on it.

Squads have specialised roles

A four-player roster is not four interchangeable shooters. Positions are defined by responsibility: who calls the rotations and makes the decisions under pressure, who takes fights first, who holds back to revive and reposition.

The leadership role in particular has a specific name and a specific abbreviation that gets used constantly in commentary. It is one of the few pieces of jargon in this scene that a viewer cannot avoid.

The organisations are the through-line

Rosters churn constantly, but a small number of Indian organisations have been near the top for years and carry the fanbases. They are the closest thing this scene has to football clubs, and matches are followed as much for the badge as for the players.

Questions naming a team and asking about its history are asking about that continuity.

The personalities came before the competition

Several of the biggest names in Indian mobile gaming built their audiences on streaming and content rather than on tournament results, and a few made the jump to competing, or to owning the organisations that compete.

That blurring of streamer and professional is characteristic of this scene, and it means the most famous names are not always the most decorated ones.

The Challenge

The tournament names are the hard part. The official circuit uses several similar multi-word titles that abbreviate to similar acronyms, and telling the qualifier apart from the flagship event is a real distinction the questions rely on.
