Forced induction is about air, and air fights back
Making more power means burning more fuel, which means forcing more air into the engine than atmospheric pressure would supply. Compressing air heats it, and hot air is less dense, which works directly against the goal, so it has to be cooled again before it reaches the cylinders.
That single tension explains most of the hardware: the device that compresses, the device that cools, the valve that dumps excess pressure, and the valve that controls how much exhaust energy drives the whole system.
