How to Play
- Start with a 4x4 grid containing two numbered tiles (value 2)
- Press arrow keys to move all tiles in that direction
- When two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into one tile with the sum of their values (e.g., 2+2=4, 4+4=8)
- Each move spawns a new random tile (usually 2, occasionally 4) in an empty space
- Combine tiles strategically to create larger numbers and increase your score
- Your goal is to create a tile with the value 2048
- Win the game once you achieve a 2048 tile, but you can keep playing for even higher scores
- Game ends when the grid is full and no more moves are possible
- Your best score is automatically saved and persists between sessions

FAQs
What happens when I reach 2048?
Congratulations! You'll see a 'You win!' message. You can choose to either start a new game or click 'Keep Playing' to continue merging tiles and aim for even higher scores like 4096, 8192, or beyond!
How do I move the tiles?
Use the four arrow keys on your keyboard to move tiles up, down, left, or right. On mobile devices, you can also swipe in these directions. All tiles move simultaneously in the chosen direction until they hit the grid edge or another tile.
When does the game end?
The game ends when the 4x4 grid is completely full and there are no more possible moves - meaning no two adjacent tiles have the same number that could merge. This is called a 'Game Over' state.
Can I undo my last move?
Unfortunately, there is no undo feature in 2048. Each move is permanent, which makes strategic planning crucial. Think carefully before each move to avoid dead ends!
Does the game save automatically?
Yes! 2048 automatically saves your current game and your best score using your browser's local storage. If you close the game or browser, you can resume right where you left off. However, clearing your browser cache will erase your saved game.
What's the best strategy to win?
Try to keep one corner of the board consistently occupied (like always having your largest tile in the top-left corner). Build larger numbers there first before attempting to move them. Avoid making the grid too full too quickly, and plan your moves several steps ahead.
Are there different difficulty levels?
2048 has only one classic mode with the same rules for everyone. The challenge comes from your own strategy and decision-making. However, the randomness of new tile spawns means each game is unique, providing endless replayability.
Why do I sometimes get a '4' tile instead of a '2'?
After each move, a new tile spawns randomly - it has about a 90% chance of being a 2 and a 10% chance of being a 4. This occasional 4 adds an element of luck and surprise to the game, making comebacks possible even in tight situations.
