FAQs
What's the goal of Hextris?
Match three or more blocks of the same color to clear them and earn points. Try to achieve the highest score possible before the blocks stack too high on the center hexagon!
How do I rotate the hexagon?
Use the Left and Right arrow keys, or press A to rotate counterclockwise and D to rotate clockwise. On mobile devices, swipe left or right on the screen.
What's a combo and how does it work?
A combo occurs when you clear multiple groups of blocks in quick succession. Each consecutive match within the combo time window multiplies your score—clear blocks faster for higher multipliers!
How does difficulty increase in the game?
Difficulty increases as you destroy more blocks and earn points. Blocks fall faster, new blocks spawn more frequently, and enemy patterns become more complex. The game caps at difficulty level 35.
Can I speed up the falling blocks?
Yes! Hold down the Down arrow key or S key to temporarily accelerate falling blocks. Release the key to return to normal speed.
Will my high score be saved?
Yes. Hextris writes your high score and progress to the browser's local storage, so it survives between sessions on the same device and browser.
What happens when the hexagon is full?
The game ends when blocks stack so high on the center hexagon that they can't be cleared in time. Your final score is displayed, and you can restart to try beating your high score.
How many colors are there and does color matter?
There are four colors: red, yellow, blue, and green. You can only clear blocks of the same color, so positioning matters strategically!
Can I play on my phone or tablet?
Yes. Swiping left or right rotates the hexagon, which is what replaces the arrow keys used on a desktop. Everything else about the game is identical.
